Working with TK Bookkeepers
What does TK Bookkeepers do?
We're a registered tax agent and cloud bookkeeping practice. We look after bookkeeping, payroll, BAS and GST, management reporting, catch-up work, software setup and training, and we prepare and lodge company, trust and individual tax returns and financial statements.
Do you work with businesses all over Australia?
Yes. We work 100% online, supporting businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Cairns, Hobart, Canberra, the Gold Coast, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast and regional Australia.
How much do your services cost?
Monthly bookkeeping and tax packages start from $300 + GST, and individual tax returns from $150 + GST. Your exact fixed fee is confirmed in writing after a free consultation. See our pricing page for full details.
Which accounting software do you use?
We work with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online, plus payroll, receipt capture and industry apps. We can also set up or migrate your software for you.
Are you a registered tax agent?
Yes. TK Bookkeepers is a registered tax agent (TAN 26379879), so we can lodge BAS and tax returns and deal with the ATO on your behalf.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. We earn your business every month. You can change or cancel your service with reasonable notice.
Bookkeeping
What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper records and reconciles transactions, runs payroll and prepares information for BAS. An accountant or tax agent prepares tax returns, financial statements and provides tax advice. TK Bookkeepers does both.
How often should my books be reconciled?
At least monthly – weekly if you have high transaction volumes. Regular reconciliation catches errors early and makes BAS time easy.
What records do I need to keep?
Generally you must keep records of income and expenses, invoices, receipts, bank statements, payroll and super records for five years. Cloud receipt capture makes this simple.
I'm behind on my books – where do I start?
Book a free consultation. We'll assess your file and ATO position and give you a fixed-fee catch-up plan.
Tax & BAS
When is my BAS due?
Quarterly BAS is generally due on the 28th of the month after the quarter ends (the December quarter is due 28 February). Tax agent lodgement can extend some due dates.
When are tax returns due?
Self-lodged individual returns are due 31 October. If you're on a tax agent's client list before then, a later due date usually applies. Company and trust due dates vary by entity.
Can you talk to the ATO for me?
Yes. As your registered tax agent we can contact the ATO on your behalf about lodgements, payment plans, amendments and reviews.
What is STP?
Single Touch Payroll reports each employee's pay, tax and super to the ATO every time you run payroll. Most employers must report through STP Phase 2.
